1) Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
2) Peel and slice the 4 potatoes into 1/8-1/4 inch slivers
3) In baking pan, put down a layer of potatoes (I usually use a glass or ceramic pan)
4) Salt & Pepper layer of potatoes to taste
5) Sprinkle a layer of cheese -- just enough to cover all the potatoes
6) Repeat steps 4-7, 2 or 3 more times. In the end you'll have 3-4 layers of potato, salt, pepper and cheese depending on how big your pan is
7) Pour Cream or Half & Half all over the potatoes. If glass, you'll be able to see how much and I generally pour and 1/3 of the height of the potatoes (hopefully that makes sense)
8) Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour -- done with top layer of cheese has a nice, light brown crust
