Make topping first- Combine brown sugar and flour. Cut in butter. Add nuts and stir. Chill until ready to be used.

Combine first 6 dry ingredients. Add shortening and milk and beat 1 1/2 minutes. Add eggs and beat again for 1 1/2 minutes. Pour 1/3 of batter into pan with bottom only greased.

|
Sprinkle half of topping over this batter. Cover with remaining batter and sprinkle with remaining topping.

|
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
