In heavy sauce pan combine butter, chocolate, evaporated milk, sugar and salt, bring to boil stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in pecans, cool.
Oatmeal base--Cream butter thoroughly. Add sugar,eggs, vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, soda, salt and 1 3/4c oats until well blended. Press 2/3 crumb mixtue into bottom of buttered pan. Spread with cooled chocolate filling.
Mix 1/4c quick oats with remaining oatmeal mixture. Crumble over filling. Bake. Cool at least 20 minutes before cutting into squares
