     Fruit Cake

Ingredients
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons Crisco
4 egg yolks
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup fruit juice
1 pound candied cherries
1 pound dates (whole)
 
1 cup brazil nuts
2 cups pecans
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1/4 cup light corn syrup
2 tablespoons water

Instructions
Cream sugar and Crisco. Add egg yolks and beat well.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with 1/2 cup fruit juice to creamed mixture. Add cherries, dates, and nuts.
Bake 1 hour 15 minutes in 350 degree oven. Mother would put a pan of water in oven to keep cake moist.
Glaze- Combine syrup and water. Bring to boil. Remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm. Brush on cake before decorating.
