In a mixing bowl, combine sausage, breadcrumbs, onion, and egg. Mix and squish together well (like making a meatloaf). This will be very sticky - Do Not Add Water!
Heat oil on medium in large frying pan. Also, heat bbq sauce on low, stirring, then remove from heat.
Pinch off meat mix and roll in your hands, making balls about the size of cherry tomatoes. Prepare all balls before cooking any. Cook in batches of ten, rolling constantly and methodically until dark golden brown all around. (Use a slotted spoon rather than a spatula). Place on paper towel-lined plate, pat dry, and stir into sauce before doing next batch. (Check the largest in each batch for doneness).
When all are done, place balls on two dinner plates, skewer with multi-colored toothpicks and sprinkle one of the plates with parmesan.
