Ingredients
1 1/2c. sugar
1/2c. shortening
1/2t. baking soda
1t. cinnamon
1t. cloves
1t. ginger
1 egg
1c. molasses
2 1/2c. flour
 
1/2t. salt
1c. hot water

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375F. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat well.
Sift together flour and all spices.
Alternate dry ingredients and hot water into the wet mixture. Pour into bread loaf and cook for 50 minutes. Note that the batter will be thin.
