In a medium bowl sift together two cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon ground cloves, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.

In a separate bowl, cream 3/4 cup Crisco with 1 cup sugar. Add one egg and 1/4 cup molasses. Add dry ingredients a little at a time. Using a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop, shape and roll dough into a ball. Coat balls with granulated sugar and place on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees until set in the center. 10-12 minutes.
