Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and applesauce; beat well. Sift together flour, soda, salt, and spices. Add to creamed mixture, stir in pecans and butterscotch pieces. Drop from teaspoon on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Let stand 2 minutes before removing from pan.
