     Seafood Soup (Soupa da Marisco)

Ingredients
bunch of green onions
1 onion
2 red peppers
1 fresh tomato
handful of fresh cilantro
3 garlic cloves minced
2 cubes of chicken broth
octopus
shrimps with heads on
 
crab legs
calamari
mussels and/or clams
1 cup rice
fresh limes

Instructions
Place first 5 ingredients in blender with one cup of water and blend til pureed. Remove the heads off the shrimp and save them and peel the shrimp. In large pot add olive oil and saute garlic. Place octopus in smaller pot and boil for 10 minutes. Add the pureed vegetables to the garlic and saute for 10 minutes.
Add the shrimp heads to the octopus pot and let them boil for 5 minutes. Add water so that it is 3/4 full to the pureed vegetables and add the chicken cubes. Strain the octopus/shrimp heads. Cut the octopus into pieces and add to soup. Take the shrimp heads and a little water and blend. Strain this shrimp head mixture and add the liquid to the soup.
Add any mussels,clams and crab legs at this point. Let cook for 30 minutes and then add calamari and shrimp and 1 cup of rice. Soup is ready when rice is cooked. Salt and pepper to taste.
Serve with fresh limes and hot sauce on the side.
