Combine eggs, raisins, and vanilla in a bowl. Let stand for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening, brown sugar, and sugar. Whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon; add gradually to creamed mixture until well combined. Add eggs/raisin mixture and stir to blend. Glod in oats and nuts to make a stiff dough. Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls; roll in sugar to coat. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake in oven for 10-12 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
