     Biscuits Supreme

Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2/3 cup milk
 

Instructions
Put all dry ingredients into a large bowl. With a pastry cutter cut shortening into dry ingredients until crumbly. Add milk, stir briefly - just until ingredients are blended. Do no overwork dough.
The easiest way to form the dough is to roll out on a pastry sheet or a floured flat surface - roll into a circle 1/2 inch thick. Cut dough into rounds with a biscuit cutter. (if you like biscuits I suggest you invest in a biscuit cutter - if you use a glass instead or another blunt instrument to cut the rounds you actually seal the sides of the dough and the biscuits don't rise as well.) You can also form the rounds by hand.
Place on to an un-greased cookie sheet or a sheet lined with parchment paper and bake @ 450 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheet to cool.
