Cut squash in half lengthwise, scoop out seeds. Cut crosswise into 1/4-inch slices. Toss in a large bowl with pears, oil, salt and pepper. Spread on a large baking sheet.
Roast, stirring once or twice, for 20-25 minutes until squash and pears are tender.
In a skillet, heat water, brown sugar and chili over medium heat. Add the squash and pears and toss to coat.
