Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In electic mixer, cream butter, shortening, sugar and brown sugar until fluffy. Add in eggs, beating. Sift flour, salt, and baking soda together. Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir in oats. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Place spoonfuls on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
