     Butterscoth Squares

Ingredients
3 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
8 eggs
3 cups brown sugar
4 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups chopped walnuts
 

Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Ensure oven rack is slightly higher than middle of oven. Grease and flour dust a cookie sheet. Combine flour and salt, then use the pastry blender to cut with shortening until the mixture forms a coarse meal texture. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually add the brown sugar and beat well, add vanilla to egg mixture. Gradually combine the flour and egg mixtures, mixing well. Spread the mixture into the cookie sheet, ensure the edges are deeper than the middle. Bakefor 22-25 minutes. Cut into squares while they are still warm. After they have cooled, frowt with maple frosting.
-Maple Frosting- 1 cube butter, softened 5 cups powdered sugar 1-2 tsp maple flavoring 2-3 tbsp milk Begin by mixing the butter and powdered sugar until they are smooth and creamy, gradually add the maple flavoring. Slowly add the milk until the desired consistency is reached. Addition of maple flavoring and milk is a personal preference.
