     Buttermilk Pound Cake

Ingredients
1 cup shortening
3 cups sugar (reserve 1 cup)
6 eggs, separate and reserve whites
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon extract
 

Instructions
Grease and flour 10 inch stem pan. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Beat shortening until creamy. Gradually add 2 cups sugar, beat until fluffy. Add egg yolks. Beat and mix well. Mix 3 cups flour together with soda, salt and buttermilk. Add together with other mixture. Add extracts. Beat egg whites until they form a peak. Add thee last cup of sugar. Fold into batter. Bake one hour and 15 minutes at 325 degrees.
