Beat butter, egg and vanilla until light and fluffy. Mix flour with soda and salt, blend into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chunks. Chill one hour. Drop 2 inches apart, from heaping teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes; remove from sheets and finish cooling on racks.
