Mix margarine, sugars, and eggs. Stir in baking
soda, salt, and flour, dough will be stiff. Stir in
chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie
sheet. Bake until light brown, 8 to 10 minutes.
(Centers will be soft.) Cool slightly; remove from
cookie sheet.
