Cream the shortening, sugar, vanilla, and eggs together one at a time.(Blend eggs in. Beat whites until they are stiff, and then fold in.
Sift the cake flour, dry cocoa, baking soda, and salt together. Then, mix the dry mixture into the creamy mixture. Use the back of a spoon to smooth the mixture after it has been placed in the pans.
Bake the cake in 2 greased and floured 81/2-inch round pans at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Frost the cake with chocolate butter frosting and top it with strawberries.
