Thoroughly combine milk, egg yolks, salt & sugar. Cook slowly in double boiler until mixture thickens to the consistency of thin pancake batter & coats the spoon, approximately 30 minutes, don't scorch it. Cool to room temperature. Add vanilla & half & half. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours. Churn freezer according to directions. For 4 quarts, double ingredients, except use 9 egg yolks.
