Ingredients
2 1/3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
3/4 cup hot water
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
 
3/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions
Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour square pan, 9 x 9 x 2 inches. Beat all ingredients in large mixer bowl on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 3 minutes. Pour into pan. Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean about 50 minutes.
