Stir the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt
together. Cut in the cream cheese and butter,
until the mixture comes together in grains about
the size of peas. (Mixing with your fingers is
usually the best way to accomplish this.) Stir in
the milk. On a lightly floured board, knead the
dough gently about 20 times. Roll the dough into
approximately a twelve-by-eight-inch rectangle,
then turn it onto a greased baking sheet. Spread
preserves lengthwise to cover two-thirds of the
dough rectangle and sprinkle the nuts over the
preserves. Fold the one-third of the rectangle
without the preserves to the center and fold over
again, making three layers of dough with 2 layers
of filling. Seal edges the edges of the roll and
run over the whole roll once lightly with a
rolling pin. From the folded edge, cut the dough
into 1 inch strips, then twist each strip so that
the cut side is up.

Note- Some of the jam will leak out of the dough
and burn onto your baking sheet. The coffee cake
will still taste fine, but you might have to scrub
to get some of the burned sugar off the baking
sheet once you're done. Also, I usually make a
double recipe, but that may be too much or too
little depending on the number (and hunger level)
of your residents.
