6 large crisp apples, peeled, cored, and thickly sliced
1 tablespoons lemon juice / 1 tablespoon orange juice (optional)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
For the topping:
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 stick butter or margarine
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 2 quart baking dish.
Peel, core, and cut the apples into large wedges. Combine the apples with the juices, sugar, and spices. Pour into the dish.
To make the topping, combine the flour, sugars, salt, oatmeal, and butter in the small bowl. Cut in the butter using a fork, electric mixer or hands to make a crumbly, sandy mixture. Sprinkle evenly over the apples.
Bake for 30- 45 minutes, until apples are tender and the topping is browned. Serve warm with heavy cream or ice cream.
