     Finnish Braid Bread

Ingredients
2 pkgs yeast
1/2 cup warm water
2 cups milk, warmed
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup butter, melted
2 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 heaping tsp ground cardamom
6 1/2 cups flour
 
Yield- 3 medium loaves

Instructions
Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Set aside.
Add milk to eggs, mix well. Add butter, salt, sugar and cardamom. Mix well. Add yeast mixture and blend. Add 6 cups flour, stir until smooth. Cover, set aside 15 minutes.
Flour board with remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover, let rise 1 hour in a warm, draft free place. Punch down. Turn and let rise 1/2 hour more. Divide dough into 9 equal pieces. Shape 3 into long rolls and braid. Repeat with remaining 6 pieces. Let rise one hour on a greased cookie sheet.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. While baking, prepare sugar glaze. Dissolve 1 1/2 Tbsp sugar in 1/8 cup boiling water. Glaze bread and return to oven. Lower temp to 350 degrees and bake an additional 15 minutes or until done.
