in a side bowl pour cover lentils with boiling water
set aside for 15 minutes
saute onion and garlic in oil until light brown
add rice and drained lentils and coat for about two -three minutes.
add spices and salt.
add three cups water and bring to boil
lower the heat and simmer for 30-50 minutes (depending on the type of rice) - check water level every 5-10 minutes.
