     Flapjacks

Category   Desserts - Breads
Sub Category   None

Ingredients
225g butter
85g caster sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
340g porridge oats
¼ teaspoon salt
Chocolate flapjacks- 115g dark chocolate
Fruit and nut flapjacks- 115g raisins
55g flaked almonds

Instructions
Plain flapjacks 1. Set the oven. Grease the baking tin. Put the butter, sugar, and maple syrup or honey in a large pan and melt over a low heat. 2. Take the pan off the heat. Add the oats and salt to the butter mixture and mix everything together well. 3. Tip the mixture into the baking tin and press it down firmly. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes until golden brown. 4. Cut the flapjacks into squares and leave them to cool in the tin. Once they have completely cooled take them out of the tin.
Chocolate flapjacks 1. Make plain flapjacks as above. Then break the chocolate into a bowl and heat in microwave or in saucepan over some water. 2. Heat the saucepan of water until it simmers. Stir the chocolate as it melts until it forms a smooth chocolate sauce. 3. Dip one end of each piece of flapjack into the melted chocolate, then put it on a wire rack until the chocolate sets.
Fruit and nut flapjacks Make as for the plain flapjacks, but add the raisins and almonds to the mixture at the same time as the oats and salt.
