1. For base, peel, core and slice apples (1/4 in.). Butter 13x9 pan.
Arrange apples evenly in pan. Sprinkle cinnamon, salt and water
over apples.
2. Sift flour, sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon together in a bowl. Stir
in oatmeal and nuts. Add semi-soft butter in pieces. With a hand
pastry blender (you can use 2 knives or a fork instead...or even
your hands) blend all of the ingredients until crumbly. Spread
topping evenly over apples and pat down gently.
3. Bake at 350 F for 45 min.
