Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets. Combine flour, baking soda, and slat. In a large bowl cream the vegetable shortening and brown sugar. Brat in the eggs. Beat in the milk and dark rum. Gradually blend in dry ingredients. Drop the dough by spoonfuls 1-1/2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake 10 - 12 minutes until firm to the touch. Transfer to wire racks to cool
