1 C. BUTTER (NO SUBSITUTES)
1 C. SIFTED POWDER SUGAR
1 EGG
1/2 t. PEPPERMINT EXTRACT
2 & 1/2 C. FLOUR
1/4 t. RED FOOD COLOR
1/4 t. GREEN FOOD COLOR
 

Instructions
BEAT BUTTER 30 SECONDS ADD POWDERED SUGAR AND BEAT UNTIL COMBINED. BEAT IN EGG AND PEPPERMINT EXTRACT. BEAT IN AS MUCH FLOUR AS POSSIBLE WITH MIXER THEN ADD REST BY HAND. DIVIDE DOUGH INTO THIRDS.
KNEAD RED FOOD COLORING INTO ONE PORTION OF DOUGH. KNEAD GREEN INTO ANOTHER PORTION. COVER AND CHILL DOUGH 30 MIN. OR TILL EASY TO HANDLE.
TO MAKE CANES ON LIGHTLY FLOURED BOARD ROLL A 3/4 INCH BALL OF EACH DOUGH INTO 5 INCH ROPE. PINCH ENDS AND TWIST TOGETHER. FORM INTO CANE SHAPE. PLACE ON UNGREASED SHEET.
BAKE 375 FOR 8-10 MIN. TILL EDGES SLIGHTLY BROWN. COOL ON WIRE RACK.
