     Grilled Gruyere with Maple Carmelized Apples

Ingredients
1 tsp salted butter
1 tsp olive oil
1 tart apple (peeled cored thinly sliced)
1 1/2 tsp maple syrup
two (4 in) pieces of baguette or crusty breat cut in half lengthwise
2 1/2 oz very thinly sliced Gruyere cheese
 

Instructions
In a medium skillet heat the butter and oil over low heat, When sizziling add apple slices and cook, gently stirring once or twice for 3 min. Drizzle on the maple syrup and rais the heat to meidum high. Cook for another 2 min or unitl the apples are caramelized but not mushy. Remove from heat.
Preheat the broiler. Place the bread on a small broiler pan. Divide the apples and the syrup in the bottom of the skillet between the four pieces of bread. Place the cheese on top of the apples and place the bread under the broiler. Broil for 2 to 3 min or until the cheese is bubbling and melted.
