In medium skillet, mix yellow onion, chicken broth, apple juice, soy sauce, sugar and ginger root mince the 1 Tbsp. Heat to boiling, stir occasionally. Reduce heat to medium and simmer for 15 min or until onions are softened and liquid is reduced by half. Remove ginger root slices.
In a small bowl, mix ketchup and chile paste. In a large bowl, mix beef, green onions, and 1 Tbsp. ginger root and the garlic salt with hands just until blended. Divide mixture into 16 portions. Using wet hands, shape into patty about 1/4 in thick
Heat medium skillet over medium heat. Add patties, cook 3-4 min on each side, pressing patties down slightly with spatula before turning until no longer pink.
Place patties on bun. Top with ketchup mixture adn onions.
