     German Red Cabbage

Ingredients
one yellow onion
8 cups shredded red cabbage
1/4 cup sugar
1 large apple (not too sweet)
2/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup water
salt & pepper to taste
optional- clove
2 tbsp butter
 

Instructions
Saute the onion in water until soft. Add sugar, stir. Add cabbage, apple, butter and stir. Pour on vinegar, water, salt & pepper to taste. Stir well.
Bring to a boil. Turn down to simmer and cover 45-60 minutes.
