Oven to 350 degrees. Beat peanut butter and shortening in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/2 c sugar and brown sugar; beat well. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat until fluffy. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to peanut butter misture, beating until blended. Shape into 1/2 inch balls. Roll in sugar, place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 5-6 minutes or until set. Immediately press chocoalte into center of each cookie. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

VARIATION- For larger cookies, shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until set. Immediately place 3 chocolate pieces in center of each cookie, pressing down slightly. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
