1 Cup Chopped Dates

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

1/2 Cup Shortening

1/4 Teaspoon Salt

3/4 Teaspoon Soda

1 6 Ounce Package Chocolate Chips

1/2 Cup Chopped Pecans

1/2 Cup Sugar

Instructions |

|
|
Mix chopped dates, 1 teaspoon baking soda and boiling water - set aside to cool.
|

|
Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs - Add to cooled date mixture.
|
|
|
|
Sift together flour, salt, 3/4 teaspoon baking soda - Add to above mixture. Mix all together well and pour into a grease and floured 9 x 13 inch pan
|

|
|
Top with chocolate chips, pecans and sugar mixture. Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
