1. Place the roast in the slow cooker. Add garlic powder, thyme,
onion, onion-soup mix, beef broth and beer to the slow cooker.
Stir the mixture.

2. Cook the roast on the low setting for seven to nine hours. Check
if the roast is done by poking it with a fork. Roast is done when it
is very tender and falls apart easily.

3. Remove the meat from the slow cooker and cover it with foil to
keep it warm. Reserve the cooking liquid in the slow cooker. Let
the roast rest for 15 minutes. Slice the roast into thin slices and
cover it again.

4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Slice the French
rolls in half. Spread the rolls evenly with butter. Place the rolls
directly on the middle oven rack and let them bake for 10 minutes.
Pile the roast beef onto the rolls. Serve the French-dip sandwiches
immediately with bowls of the hot liquid on the side for dipping.
