1 cup dry split peas or lentils, sorted and rinsed(WIC food)
4 large onions, chopped(WIC food)
4 large carrots, sliced(WIC food)
1 stalk of celery, chopped(WIC food)
4 cups of water
1 teaspoon of salt
1 medium bay leaf(optional)
Instructions
1. Put all ingredients into pan.
2. Heat to boiling
3. Cover and cook gently about 30 minutes or until peas or lentils are tender. Remove bay leaf before eating.
For a variation, add pieces of cooked ham before cooking and omit the salt, or add milk for a cream pea soup. Serve with bread, rolls or biscuits, and a green salad.
