In a skillet, cook carrot, celery, and onion in butter till tender but not brown. Stir in sage, salt, cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. In a large mixing bowl, combine bread cubes, chopped apple, walnuts. Add cooked vegetable mixture. Drizzle with enough chicken broth the moisten, toss lightly.
