You would think that a four-ingredient recipe is pretty easy-and it is for most folks but- I have been known to screw this up. My friend Kathy Seminoff, who is an excellent baker used to make this at Christmas and gave me the recipe thinking even I couldn't get it wrong. Well, most of the time it does turn out fine-usually because my Christmas baking support group give me clear direction and encouragement. Cathy Kunz started coming up to help me with my Christmas baking more than 20 years ago--when I was in a cookie exchange (12 dozen). Thank you. We have been joined by Chris and Joan and these are always fun occasions and part of our important rituals and shared history. There is more wine drunk these days but we still enjoy passages from Nigella's 'How to be a Domestic Goddess' book--by turns hilarious and eloquent. I can highly recommend organizing a Christmas baking day with friends. The mistakes are more fun and the successes more acknowledged.
