Put water, sugar, eggs, spices, margarine, dried fruits, and treacle
into a pot and bring to the boil, stirring regularly.
Reduce heat and simmer for 1 minute. Take off heat.
Fold in flour and baking soda.
Turn into a bowl or pudding basin lined with cooking-grade Saran
wrap or I use wax paper. Overlap on top of mixture.
Do not cover bowl. Cook on high x 9 minutes-may be less
depending on your microwave.
Each year for more than 30 years Christine, Joan Bev and Marjorie have celebrated
Christmas together adding husbands and children along the way. We have always done all our
meals as potluck, sharing the work and credit for the memorable meals we have produced.
One year, when the kids were little Marjorie didn't get around to making, or then buying a
Christmas pudding--a vital accompaniment to Joan's unrivalled Rum Sauce. Grandma Ethel
Blair came to the rescue with this surprisingly good pudding recipe. (Don't however, try to test
a small amount --the burnt sugar smoke smell that fills the kitchen is hard to get rid of in
time for the festivities...
We gave up making Christmas pudding some years ago-Even the bought ones are good when
smothered in rum sauce. And don't feel bad if your choice is.. steam in a double boiler for 4
hours or microwave for 8 minutes-choose the 8 minute route-it's not about the perfect
Christmas, its about the friends.

Very tasty. Excellent with rum sauce and whipped cream from the trifle that is also in the bowl...
