     Apple Pie with Crumb Topping

Ingredients
Pie Crust-
1 cup of flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon of shortening
2 to 3 tablespoons of cold water
Apple Pie Filling-
3/4 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of flour
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
 
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
6 cups of apples cored, pared, and thinly sliced
Crumb Topping-
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of butter

Instructions
For the Pie Crust- In a medium bowl, mix together flour and salt. Using a pastry blender or two knives, cut- in shortening until particles are the size of peas. Sprinkle in cold water, one tablespoon at a time, using a fork. Mix lightly until dough leaves the sides of the bowl. Roll out dough between two pieces of lightly floured waxed paper to 1/8 inch thickness.
For Apple Pie Filling- In a large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Add apples and toss until apples are evenly coated. Place in pie pan lined with crust.
For Crumb Topping- In a medium bowl, mix together flour and brown sugar. Cut- in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over apple mixture. Bake in a preheated 425 degree F oven for approximately 45 minutes. Cover topping with aluminum foil the last 10 minutes of baking if top browns too quickly.
