Comine bran, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and wheat germ,
and salt. Mix in dates, nuts and orange rind.
In a large mixing bowl, beat oil, molasses and brown sugar until
well blended. Stir in buttermilk.

I found this recipe in the cooking section of a newspaper at a time
when there were muffin shops everywhere in Vancouver.
Unfortunately, the muffins tasted more like cake than good healthy,
breakfast muffins so I decided to give this recipe a try. The muffin
shops have faded away, but this recipe has endured and I know they
have always been a favourite of Marjorie's and have no eggs.
