Microwave Directions:
Additional ingredient: 4 Tablespoons butter/margarine
1.Cut butter into small pieces & place in a medium microwave- safe bowl. Add Sweetened condensed milk & chocolate chips. Microwave on high for 1-1.5 min. Remove & stir until butter is melted & mixture is smooth.
2.Add vanilla & if desired, nuts. Stir to combine
3.Pour fudge into wax paper lined 8 or 9 inch square pan.
4.Chill 2 hours or until firm. Turn fudge onto cutting board: peel off paper & cut into squares. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

Stovetop Directions:
1.In heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt chocolate chips with Sweetened condensed milk & salt.
2.Remove from heat: stir in nuts (optional) & vanilla.
3.Spread evenly into wax paper lined 8 or 9 inch square pan.
4.Chill 2 hours or until firm. Turn fudge onto cutting board : peel off paper & cut into squares. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

Variations:
Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Glazed Fudge:
Proceed as above but stir in ¾ cup PB chips in place of nuts. Glaze: melt ½ cup PB chips w/ ½ cup whipping cream; stir until thick & smooth. Spread over chilled fudge.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl Fudge
Combine ½ cup smooth PB & 2 Tablespoons powdered sugar. Make fudge as above & pour into square pan. Drop small spoonfuls of PB onto the fudge. Drag a knife through the PB in several directions to create swirls. Can make with or without nuts.
Marshmallow Fudge
Proceed as above but omit nuts & add additional 2 Tablespoons butter (if following stovetop directions- if following microwave no additional butter is necessary); Fold in 2 cups miniature marshmallows.

Rocky Road Fudge:
Proceed as above & in Step 2, when stirring in nuts also stir in 1 ½ cup mini marshmallows.
Chocolate Peppermint Fudge:
Proceed as above but in Step 2 Add ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract. Do not add nuts. Crush ½ cup of peppermint candy & sprinkle over top. Refrigerate 2 hours.
