Ingredients
1 Cup finely chopped dates
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 Cups boiling water
1/2 Cup butter
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 Cup sugar
1 3/4 Cup flour
2 eggs
 
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Topping
1/2 Cup sugar
2 Cups chocolate chips
1/2 Cup nuts
Instructions
Toss dates with soda in a medium bowl. Pour boiling water over them and stir. Set aside to cool.. Cream butter and sugar in mixer. Add eggs and vanilla, blend well. Pour in date mixture and blend. Add dry ingredients and beat until batter is smooth. Pour batter into greased 9" x 12" pan and sprinkle topping on top. Bake at 350o for 30 - 35 minutes.
