Drain the pickles and remove them from the jar.
Layer the pickles, the 5 pounds of sugar, the tabasco and the garlic.

(SUGGESTION: put one layer of pickles in the jar first; it will keep the sugar from sticking on the bottom of the jar.) NOTE: you will really have to stuff the last of the sugar into the jar!

Put Saran Wrap on the top of the jar and then put the lid back on. Turn the jar upside down each day for two weeks.

I put these into smaller pickle jars for gifts one year. I did not refrigerate them.
