     Bread and Butter Pickles

Ingredients
1 qt. sliced cucumbers
1 medium sliced onion
2 qts lukewarm water
1/4 cup salt
 
Instructions
Soak above ingredients 3 hours; rinse in clear water.
Bring to boil 1 pt. vinegar and 1 cup sugar (brown preferred) and whole pickling spice and 1/4 tsp turmeric. Add cucumbers, heat thoroughly and seal.
You can add a pinch of powered alum to make them crisp.
