Blend sugar, oil and eggs together. Add salt, soda, baking powder and buttermilk. Mix well and add flour to make soft dough. Let dough set 15 minutes after mixing. Roll dough on lightly floured board to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with pastry cutter into 2/3-inch rectangles. Cut one diagonal cut, 1-inch long in center of each rectangle. Fry in deep fat until brown. Drain. Sprinkle with sugar, powdered sugar, or frost.
