Line a mini-loaf pan with foil, or make a small, sturdy foil pan about
3 1/2 x 2 x 1 1/4 inch. Melt baking chocolate as package directs. Add vegetable shortening; stir until melted and blended. Pour into prepared pan. Refrigerate until firm, peel off foil, then bring to room temperature. Pull a swivel-blade vegetable peeler down length of chocolate bar to form curls (if needed, warm bar in your hands to soften). Refrigerate curls in a single layer in a rigid container (with waxed paper between layers) until ready to use.
