Cut potatoes crosswise into 1/8 inch slices, cutting only ¾ through. Place cut side up in greased oblong baking dish, 11 x 7 x 1 ½ inches. Brush with margarine; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake in 375 degree oven, brushing with margarine once or twice, 45 minutes. Sprinkle cheese on potatoes. Sprinkle with paprika. Bake until tender, 20 to 30 minutes.
Note- Potatoes can be baked with a roast at 325 degrees one hour. Brush with meat drippings; sprinkle with cheese mixture. Bake until tender, about 30 minutes.
To avoid slicing potatoes too deeply, place each on a large spoon before slicing. The concave bowl of the spoon prevents the knife from cutting the potato too far.
