1/2 kg (1 pound) toovar dal
|
|
1/2 tsp turmeric
|
|
6 cups water
|
|
Ghee/Oil
|
|
1 onion, finely sliced
|
|
1/2 tsp chilli powder
|
|
1 clove garlic, finely sliced
|
|
A few curry leaves
|

Instructions |
|
|
In a pan, put in the dal and water. Cook on high
heat.
|
|
|
When the dal is half cooked, add turmeric and
continue cooking till the dal is soft. Strain
through a seive.
|
|
|
In another pan, put a spoon of ghee and fry the
onion to a light brown. Add curry leaves, salt,
chilli powder and slice garlic and fry a little.
|
|
|
Empty the strained dal into the masala. Bring to a
boil twice and cook on low heat until it thickens to
required consistency.
