Mix together German chocolate cake mix according to directions on package. Pour half of cake mix in a Pam sprayed 9 x 13 inch cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes. Mix together in sauce pan, the caramels, margarine and evaporated milk and cook until melted. Pour over cake mix. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts (optional) on top of caramel mixture. Bake for 20-22 minutes longer. Serve warm with ice cream or cool whip.
