In 10 inch skillet, cook sausage and onion until
meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain. Butter
bottom of 9X13X2 inch glass baking dish. Line the
bottom with 8 slices of bread. Layer meat and
cheese over bread, beginning with meat and ending
with cheese, until all are used up.
In a large bowl, combine eggs, 1.5 cups of milk, dry
mustard, salt and pepper; pour over layers in baking
dish. Cover; refrigerate over night.
Heat oven to 300 degrees. In a small bowl, combine
soup and 1/2 can of milk; pour over layers. Bake 1.5
hours. Serve hot.
Note- I usually bump the eggs up to an even dozen and
use 2 cups of milk and 10 slices of bread. The
original recipe used whole slices of bread but I
usually cube mine. I also use an 11X13X2 glass baking
dish.
